Florence, Arizona, in Pinal county, is 32 miles SE of Gilbert, Arizona and 36 miles SE of Mesa, Arizona. The town is in the Phoenix area.
Florence was platted in 1866 by Colonel Levi Ruggles. It went on to be developed as the agricultural center of the county. The 1870s saw significant progress as silver was discovered in the nearby Silver King Mine. This attracted many people who sought work in the mines to the area. Florence was incorporated in 1900.
Florence is located in a naturally scenic area, so sightseeing and spending time outdoors is a popular pastime in the area. There are over one hundred buildings in Florence which are listed on the National Register of Historic places.
